Ten new customers were brought on-line in 1995, representing over 2.2 million square feet of building space and over 2,800 tons of new cooling load. In addition, five new customers signed contracts for future service agreement with 33 customers, a significant increase over the past five years.
An accelerating cooling construction plan was activated in early October so three new customers can take service in 1996.
A primary concern during construction is to minimize its community impact. Toward this end, we kept in touch with affected downtown neighbors before, during and after the autumn project. In response to community feedback, we provided our contractors with incentives to finish early. All street work was completed before Thanksgiving-ahead of schedule. Our follow-up survey yielded even more valuable ideas on how to further improve our communication and construction efforts.
To keep up with the rapid system growth, two new 500-ton steam absorption chillers, which operate on steam from our cogeneration equipment, were installed in our plant this past spring. Plans are under way to install an additional 2,000-ton chiller and a third cooling tower in the summer 1996.
