The facilities include two combustion turbine-generator sets, two heat-recovery steam generators and three steam-producing, gas-fired boilers. The heat-recovery generators each produce up to 68,000 pounds per hour (pph) of steam and the gas-fired boilers can produce an additional 140,000 pph of steam at 120 pounds per square inch gauge. Under the agreement, EES will manage and perform day-to-day plant operations and maintenance.
"We will begin our energy partnership with the Illinois Institute of Technology in the cogeneration and steam plant operations but also will share our energy expertise in other areas," said Barry Markowitz, president of EES. "For example, EES also will identify and implement ideas to use energy more efficiently and reduce costs across the 120-acre campus. As an affiliate of Detroit Edison, we can call on the utility's nearly 94 years of energy management experience to help customers."
Headquartered in Ann Arbor, Mich., EES provides energy services and invests in, builds and operates on-site energy systems for large industrial and institutional customers. Both EES and Detroit Edison are subsidiaries of DTE Energy Company, a diversified energy company involved in the development and management of energy-related businesses and services nationwide.
