National Energy Policy
The Dutch energy policy is based on the following principles:
- Saving energy
- The Ministry of Economic Affairs subsidizes apparatus and
systems burning fuels at high efficiency.
- Electricity companies with heat
delivery use about 85 to 95% of the fuel heat.
- Diversity
- So as not to be dependent on one sort of fuel only, and to
gradually introduce a certain security in the energy supply, several fuels
are used for heating throughout the country.
- Gas burning units can be
regulated faster than coal fired systems which cover the base load.
- Ecological heating
- The Ministry of the Environment on the one hand and
the public service corporations on the other hand have drawn up plans to
limit emissions of C02, NO, and S02.
- The coordinating organization of the electricity producers has created an electricity and heating concept.
- This plan concerns the construction of several large-scale total energy power
plants at locations where a greater sale of heat is possible.
