Bishop

Charles Robert Bishop was born in Medina, New York, 28 March 1867, the son of Robert S. Bishop, physician and surgeon, and Mary Louise (Hutchins) Bishop. He was graduated from the Medina Free Academy in 1885, and was in the manufacturing business in Rockford, Illinois from 1885 to 1889. He then moved to Lockport, New York, where he commenced the practice of civil, steam and electrical engineering. Up to 1897 he was in charge of engineering and construction work in various parts of the country. In 1897 he was electric secretary and general manager of the American District Steam Company of Lockport.

Bishop was also president of the Economy Light, Fuel and Power Company, which was the successor operating company for Birdsill Holly's original 1876 Lockport steam system. He was also president of the American Motor Truck Company of Lockport.

Bishop was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the American Society of Heating and Ventilating Engineers (ASHVE, now ASHRAE), and of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers.

On 7 February 1896 he married Frances C. Guild, daughter of C. S. Guild of Lockport. They had three sons: Donald Guild Bishop, Robert Charles Bishop, and Alan Francis Bishop; and one daughter, Alma Guild Bishop (1913-). Mr. Bishop lived at 413 Locust Street in Lockport in 1910.

In the 1927 ASME Year Book, he is listed as Vice President and General Manager of the N.Y. Branch of the Caloroil Burner Corporation.

Bishop died in 1954.
